Green Swamp purchase to become state park

"Governor Jeb Bush and the Florida Cabinet today increased protection for Central Florida’s water with a vote approving the purchase of almost 5,100 acres of Green Swamp. The Overstreet /Colt Creek Property, an Area of Critical Concern, will be managed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as Polk County’s second state park.



“The addition of the Overstreet/Colt Creek Property as a Florida State Park will provide resource-based recreation, cultural resource preservation and safeguard Florida’s water supply,” said DEP Secretary Colleen M. Castille. “This purchase will protect environmentally sensitive areas of the state for generations to come.”..."
